The SETI Institute will host an upcoming chat that explores the secrets of the solar system and the search for life beyond Earth. Two scientists from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland – Dr. Stefanie Milam and Dr. Geronimo Villanueva will participate in this discussion into the unknown. Communications specialist Beth Johnson will moderate.
What makes this discussion exciting is the recent launch of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), which is the most powerful space telescope ever built. Dr. Milam and Dr. Villanueva will share their expertise on how this unique observatory will lead the way in the search for biological signatures and potential habitable worlds.
The panelists will also explore some of the most promising objects for the search for life in our solar system: from the geysers of Enceladus, a small icy moon of Saturn, to Europa, Jupiter’s moon believed to have a subterranean ocean, and even to the possibility of finding life on Titan, Saturn’s moon that has liquid methane and ethane lakes on its surface.
This chat is a rare opportunity to learn from two of the most brilliant minds in space exploration and astrobiology. They will share their insights and the implications of possible discoveries for our understanding of the universe.
This chat takes place on 31 May at 4:00 P.M. Pacific Time, available via Zoom. Please note that this SETI Talks will be online only and will not be live streamed on social media, please make sure to register for access to this event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/jwst-a-cosmic-time-machine-for-astrobiology-tickets-638252058087
